I'm at MSOE in Milwaukee every year and it's one of my favorite dates on the calendar — great people on that campus, and they let me do strolling comedy mentalism around the room before the comedy hypnosis show starts. That combination is the best structure I know for a big event: the mentalism works the crowd while people are still arriving and eating, and by the time the stage show starts the room is warmed up and already volunteering. Milwaukee is a festival city, too, which means people here have a well-developed sense of what a good time is supposed to feel like — a summer of lakefront events sets the bar, and a show has to earn its spot.
